Like Double Dutch (& My Wish At the Close of the Christmas Season)
Hello. I'm back after a long hiatus.
This past year has been full of surprises and detours from the plans I had made for myself. And as a result, this passion project of mine has been pushed to the back burner. Despite this, it's never been very far from my thoughts, and I've had many moments over the last few months when I've wanted to start writing here again.
Each time, though, I hesitated. My inner perfectionist was always questioning whether the thoughts or ideas I wanted to share were really the best ones for beginning again. Or maybe they didn't align with the events of that particular day, events that seem to come at us in a torrent and defy anyone's ability to swim in the current.
I've finally decided that I just need to start from wherever I am. It's like double dutch; find an opening in the flux and jump back in.
I'm glad to be back.
Today is the Feast of the Epiphany. Growing up in a Catholic family, our tradition was that the Christmas season didn't end until this day, January 6th, the feast honoring the Three Wise Men.
So in honor of what is, for me, the close of the Christmas season, I’d like to share George Harrison’s still timely plea for love and peace on earth. May this central precept of Christmas remain our North Star in spite of those who would rather fan the flames of conflict and beat the drums for war.
